Interracial Marriage Now

NY Professional Wedding Photographer
Interracial marriage is on the rise in America, how exciting! The races are coming together…… But not too long ago, even in these UNITED states, the right to choose whom to marry was limited based on race. It was actually illegal in many states. I recently saw Grey Villet‘s ICP exhibit about the Lovings. It’s so strange to me that they were sentenced to prison for being married and for being from two different races. Crazy, right?! Too bad I don’t have HBO…. I missed this. But glad I went to the ICP exhibit….definitely a must see!
So what do you think? Are interracial marriages good for society?

Ferris Kneile - Well, you know I think it’s great. Love should have no barriers.

wendy g - Yeah Ferris how true. The judge that finally ruled in their favor said that choosing whom to marry was such an essential and basic right, that it shouldn’t be limited by race. Let Love Rule!

Ime Lopez - I thank God that things have changed. It must be interesting for those who lived and loved through that awful time to see how drastically things have changed.

Karen - I don’t think they benefit or hurt society…they make society pretty. One thing for sure is the hair industry sure does benefit…trying to find the right hair product is expensive (I know this may be off the topic but it’s true, yes this is my struggle).

wendy g - Karen HaHa! Oh the $$$ to be made in hair care products! And yes, pretty and beautiful…. but not in the old school mentality of good hair vs bad hair but just plain old liberty, and freedom. Can you imagine you and Ermes falling in love and wanting to get married but being legally prohibited? That is profoundly warped. But thank God, things are not what they used to be :-)

wendy g - Ime to live and love through THAT must have been so mind boggling. I like what Mr. Loving said, Tell the judge that I love my wife and it’s not fair that we can’t live in Virginia.

Jainnie - I think interracial marriages are so important to our current society. With everything changing and adapting, mixed cultures bring a unique flavor to our world! Being with people of other cultures forces us to think outside of ourselves and learn to appreciate some aspects of life that may be foreign to us. The added bonus is that bi-racial children are soooo cute!

wendy g - All great points Jainnie! And who doesn’t need to “think outside of ourselves”? I am constantly amazed by all the different cultural traditions of my clients. I feel like I get to visit nations at their weddings :-)
