A few weeks ago I came back after an amazing trip to Haïti. I’d never there before, so it was such a privilege to be on the team. We were there for an outreach to encourage pastors and their churches because many have lost families, homes, church buildings and congregants because of the earthquake. The outreach was aptly named “Beauty for Ashes”. Throughout Port-au-Prince you’d see homes and buildings that have been completely or partially crushed. And many people are still living in “tent cities”. We met some wonderful, tenderhearted, humble praying people. After decades….. after generations of poverty, sickness, barrenness, rejection and disaster Haïti, by God’s grace, is turning around!
“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3
